Semaglutide in the UK: Legal Status, Prices and Supplier Checks
Last reviewed
Semaglutide is two different things in the UK: a licensed prescription medicine sold as Wegovy, Ozempic and Rybelsus, and a research compound supplied to laboratories. This guide sets out which is which, what research-grade semaglutide costs, and how to check any supplier before ordering. To order research material, go to the semaglutide product page.
The short version
- Two different products. Wegovy, Ozempic and Rybelsus are licensed semaglutide, available only on prescription. Research-grade semaglutide is laboratory material and is not a medicine.
- Price. Eight strengths, 2 mg to 50 mg, in boxes of 10 vials from £4.18 ($5.50) per vial, every strength priced on the product page. Each box carries a batch-specific COA from Janoshik or Freedom Diagnostic.
- Not for human use. If you are looking for weight-loss or diabetes treatment, the lawful route is a prescription through a GP or a registered pharmacy, not a research supplier.
Guide
What a UK buyer should know
Points you can check independently. Nothing here is a claim about what semaglutide does, or a statement that it is safe or effective for any purpose.
A licensed medicine and a research compound
Semaglutide is a long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist. Its obesity trial, STEP 1, is published in the New England Journal of Medicine,1 as is SUSTAIN-6, its cardiovascular outcomes trial in type 2 diabetes.2 As a medicine it is licensed in the UK as Wegovy, Ozempic and Rybelsus, and all three are prescription-only. Research-grade semaglutide is the same molecule supplied as a lyophilised powder for laboratory work. It is not made, tested or released to medicines standards, so it is not Wegovy or Ozempic and is never a substitute for either.
What a Certificate of Analysis is worth
Every box ships with a batch-specific COA from Janoshik or Freedom Diagnostic. Batch-specific is the part that matters: a certificate for a different lot tells you nothing about the vial in your hand. Check the batch number on the certificate against the number printed on your box, and check that the laboratory named on it will confirm the report if asked.
Why price per vial is the number to compare
Semaglutide comes in eight strengths from 2 mg to 50 mg, so a headline price is easy to make misleading. A price per box of ten is not comparable with a price per vial, and a price for 2 mg is not comparable with one for 20 mg. We publish price per vial and per box at every strength.
What delivery involves
We are UK-based, and orders ship tracked from our UK stock or direct from our verified manufacturer, depending on availability. Material shipped from outside the UK can be held, inspected or returned by customs; if that happens we reship a seized order once per customer at no cost, and a parcel whose tracking stalls is reshipped free.

Common questions
Is semaglutide legal in the UK?
As a medicine, semaglutide is licensed in the UK as Wegovy, Ozempic and Rybelsus and can only be supplied on prescription. Research-grade semaglutide is laboratory material, not a licensed medicine, so there is no lawful route to supply it for human use. It is supplied here as research material only. Our guide to peptide legality in the UK sets out the distinction in full.
Is research semaglutide the same as Wegovy or Ozempic?
It is the same molecule but not the same product. Wegovy and Ozempic are manufactured, tested and released under a marketing authorisation and come in pre-filled pens. Research-grade semaglutide is a lyophilised powder in a sealed vial, made for laboratory use and verified by a batch Certificate of Analysis rather than by a medicines regulator.
How much does semaglutide cost in the UK?
Research-grade semaglutide starts at £4.18 ($5.50) per vial in a box of ten, with all eight strengths priced per vial and per box on the product page. That is the price of laboratory material. It tells you nothing about the cost of a prescription, which is set by the pharmacy.
What strengths does semaglutide come in?
Eight: 2 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg, 40 mg and 50 mg, each in a box of ten vials.
Is there a minimum order?
No. One box of ten vials is a complete order.
