About this group
This group spans mitochondrial function, cellular energetics and senescence research. Note that NAD+ is a dinucleotide coenzyme rather than a peptide — it is catalogued here because it is ordered alongside the mitochondrial peptides, not because it shares their structure.

About this group
How the longevity and mitochondrial compounds differ
The five compounds here sit at very different points on the evidence scale. SS-31, known clinically as elamipretide, has the longest human record. It has been through registered clinical trials for mitochondrial disease, though no regulator has approved it. MOTS-c is a 16-residue peptide encoded in mitochondrial DNA. Its published work is still in cell culture and animal models.
Epitalon is the compound most associated with longevity research. It is a synthetic tetrapeptide from the Russian bioregulator programme, and its human data comes from small studies, several decades old, that no independent group has replicated.
Glutathione and NAD+ are different again. Both occur naturally in every cell. Researchers use them as reagents in redox and cellular-energy work, so the question is how they behave in a model rather than whether they act at all. For a mitochondrial model, the useful split is between peptides that target the mitochondrion (SS-31 and MOTS-c) and the cofactors those pathways depend on (NAD+ and glutathione).
