About Sermorelin

What is Sermorelin?

Overview

What is Sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a synthetic 29-residue peptide corresponding to the N-terminal fragment of growth-hormone-releasing hormone — the shortest portion of the parent hormone that retains full activity at the GHRH receptor. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in sealed vials, boxed in tens, for laboratory research use only. It is also written as GRF(1-29) and GHRH(1-29), and the sermorelin peptide sold for research is the same compound under any of those names.

Laboratory research use onlyNobelPepLab supplies Sermorelin strictly for in vitro and laboratory research. We do not provide dosing guidance, do not make health claims, and do not supply products for human or veterinary use.

These are catalogue target specifications, not batch results. The 99%+ purity figure is the specification we buy to. The authoritative figures for any particular box are the ones printed on that box’s Certificate of Analysis, which is lot-specific. What research grade actually means explains the difference. Terms such as HPLC purity and net peptide content are explained in the peptide glossary.

We make no “third-party verified” claim for a batch unless the matching report is supplied with it. Ask for the current COA for the lot in stock before you order — we will send it.

Important: Sermorelin was formerly marketed as a licensed medicine under the name Geref and was discontinued commercially in 2008. It is not licensed in the UK. Material supplied here is research-grade and is not that product.
Storage & reconstitution

Handling

How should Sermorelin be stored and reconstituted?

Sealed vials tolerate ambient temperature in transit and keep at −20 °C beyond that. Reconstitute slowly down the vial wall, swirl rather than shake, then refrigerate at 2–8 °C and aliquot before freezing.

What it is researched for

Research Context

What is Sermorelin researched for?

Below is a plain-English summary of what published research has investigated, and what it has found. These are descriptions of research activity and published results. They are not claims about what Sermorelin does, and nothing here is a statement that it is safe or effective for any purpose.

Research status Formerly approved as a licensed medicine in the United States under the name Geref; discontinued commercially in 2008. Not licensed in the UK. Prohibited in competitive sport under the WADA S2 category covering growth hormone releasing factors.

GHRH receptor pharmacology

Sermorelin is the 1-29 N-terminal fragment of growth-hormone-releasing hormone, amidated at the C-terminus. Deletion work on the parent hormone mapped where the activity actually sits: shortening hGRF to the 1-29 fragment leaves roughly half the potency of the full-length hormone, fragments as short as 1-21 remain active though at very low potency, and bioactivity only disappears once the chain is cut back to 1-19, with the minimal fully intrinsic core falling in the 3-21 region. 1 That makes 1-29 the shortest fragment still practical as a full agonist rather than an arbitrary cut, which is why it is the length carried forward into the rest of the analogue family.

Short half-life as a research property

Sermorelin retains the Ala2-Asp3 bond of the parent hormone and is cleaved there by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 at essentially the same rate as full-length GRF, which is what gives the unmodified peptide a plasma half-life measured in minutes. 2 That was a practical limitation in its clinical era and is a useful property in a laboratory setting, where a short-acting agonist separates an acute receptor response from the effects of sustained exposure. It is also the specific bond that the later analogues in this family were designed around.

Comparative GHRH work

It is routinely run against longer-acting analogues in the same family: tesamorelin, which is full-length and modified, and the CJC-1295 forms, which are the same 1-29 fragment with substitutions and in one case an albumin-binding group. Because all of them act at the same receptor, the comparison isolates what changing exposure over time does rather than what the peptide does at the receptor. Direct comparisons of the 1-29 fragment against the full-length hormone report differences in how repeatable the response is on re-exposure, not only in potency. 3

Laboratory uses

Applications

Where Sermorelin is used in the laboratory

  • GHRH receptor (GHRH-R) binding and signalling studies
  • Somatotroph cell culture research
  • Comparative work against full-length and long-acting GHRH analogues such as tesamorelin and the CJC-1295 family
  • Peptide fragment structure-activity research, where the question is how much of a hormone can be removed before activity is lost
Batch COA

Verification

Does Sermorelin come with a COA?

Yes — every box. Each batch of Sermorelin is analysed by an independent third-party laboratory, and the certificate is tied to the batch number on the vial label.

Questions & answers

Questions

Sermorelin questions, answered

What is sermorelin peptide?

Sermorelin is the first 29 amino acids of growth-hormone-releasing hormone, synthesised as a standalone peptide. Truncating GHRH to this length keeps its activity at the receptor; shortening it further does not. That makes it the reference fragment in GHRH structure-activity work, and it is supplied here as laboratory research material only.

Is sermorelin a peptide?

Yes, and an unmodified one — a plain 29-residue chain with no fatty-acid conjugate, no substitutions and nothing attached to extend its half-life. That is what separates it from tesamorelin and from the CJC-1295 family, which are the same idea with modifications bolted on.

How is sermorelin different from tesamorelin?

Length and modification. Sermorelin is the unmodified 1-29 fragment; tesamorelin is a full-length 1-44 analogue carrying a trans-3-hexenoyl group that blocks the enzyme which would otherwise clear it within minutes. Both act at the same receptor, so the comparison in the literature is about exposure over time rather than about what happens at the receptor itself.

How much does Sermorelin cost?

Sermorelin starts at $7.50 per vial, sold in boxes of 10 vials at $75.00 per box (about £56.19). 2 strengths available: 5 mg, 10 mg. There is no minimum order.

Can I buy Sermorelin 10mg vials in the UK?

Yes. Sermorelin 10mg comes in boxes of 10 vials at $100.00 per box ($10.00 per vial, about £74.92 per box), sent tracked to UK addresses. There is no minimum order.

How is Sermorelin shipped to the UK and USA?

Tracked to the UK, USA, EU and worldwide, in plain packaging, dispatched within 1–2 working days. Country-by-country estimates are on the shipping page.
