Palmitoylated collagen-fragment pentapeptide used in dermal matrix research

Matrixyl

Matrixyl is palmitoyl pentapeptide-4: a five-residue fragment of type I collagen - lysine, threonine, threonine, lysine, serine - with a sixteen-carbon palmitic acid chain attached. The peptide itself is a piece of the propeptide released when collagen is broken down, and the working hypothesis is that its presence signals to fibroblasts that matrix repair is needed. Supplied as a lyophilised powder in sealed vials, boxed in tens, for laboratory research use only.

Physical formLyophilised powder
Available strengths10 mg
Box quantity10 vials
Price from$7.29 per vial ($72.85 per box)
Research statusThe pentapeptide KTTKS is a fragment of the type I collagen propeptide, and the research question is whether presenting that fragment to fibroblasts prompts them to lay down more matrix. Cell-culture work and small clinical studies exist. The literature is considerably thinner than the marketing around it, and most published work uses the palmitoylated form at cosmetic concentrations.
DocumentationBatch-specific COA (Janoshik or Freedom Diagnostic)

These are catalogue target specifications, not batch results. The 99%+ purity figure is the specification we buy to. The authoritative figures for any particular box are the ones printed on that box’s Certificate of Analysis, which is lot-specific.

We make no “third-party verified” claim for a batch unless the matching report is supplied with it. Ask for the current COA for the lot in stock before you order — we will send it.

Pricing

How much does Matrixyl cost?

Matrixyl starts at $7.29 per vial (£5.76), sold in boxes of 10 at $72.85. One box is the smallest order and there is no trade account or minimum spend. Larger volumes are negotiable.

Matrixyl price by strength. Billed in USD; GBP shown for reference. Each box contains 10 vials.

10 mg$7.29 £5.76$72.85 £57.55
Important: Sold as research material. Matrixyl is a trade name widely used in cosmetic formulation. Nothing supplied here is a cosmetic product, and no cosmetic claim is made or implied.

Handling

How should Matrixyl be stored and reconstituted?

Sealed vials tolerate ambient temperature in transit and keep at −20 °C beyond that. Reconstitute slowly down the vial wall, swirl rather than shake, then refrigerate at 2–8 °C and aliquot before freezing.

Research Context

What is Matrixyl researched for?

Below is a plain-English summary of what published research has investigated, and what it has found. These are descriptions of research activity and published results. They are not claims about what Matrixyl does, and nothing here is a statement that it is safe or effective for any purpose.

Research status The pentapeptide KTTKS is a fragment of the type I collagen propeptide, and the research question is whether presenting that fragment to fibroblasts prompts them to lay down more matrix. Cell-culture work and small clinical studies exist. The literature is considerably thinner than the marketing around it, and most published work uses the palmitoylated form at cosmetic concentrations.

The collagen fragment hypothesis

KTTKS is released when type I collagen is broken down. The reasoning behind using it as an active is that a fragment of degraded collagen may act as a feedback signal that repair is needed. In tendon-cell culture the pentapeptide increased expression of type I collagen and transforming growth factor beta, which is the most direct published support for the idea. 1

Wound and matrix work

The palmitoylated form has been examined in wound-contraction models alongside connective tissue growth factor, which extends the question from collagen expression alone to the broader matrix response. 2

What is not established

Most published work is cell culture or small studies. Whether effects at those concentrations translate to intact human skin at the concentrations used in formulation is unsettled, and independent replication is limited.

Applications

Where Matrixyl is used in the laboratory

  • Dermal matrix research, where the KTTKS fragment is studied for its effect on type I collagen expression in fibroblast culture
  • Comparative work alongside GHK-Cu, the other widely researched matrix-signalling peptide in this catalogue
  • Delivery and permeation studies, since the palmitoyl chain exists specifically to address the difficulty of moving a hydrophilic pentapeptide across a lipid barrier
  • Wound and connective-tissue models, where the palmitoylated form has been examined alongside connective tissue growth factor

Verification

Does Matrixyl come with a COA?

Yes — every box. Each batch of Matrixyl is analysed by Janoshik Analytical or Freedom Diagnostic, and the certificate is tied to the batch number on the vial label.

Questions

Matrixyl questions, answered

Why is it palmitoylated?

Because KTTKS on its own is hydrophilic and crosses lipid membranes poorly. Attaching a fatty acid makes the molecule amphiphilic and improves partitioning into the stratum corneum in permeation studies. The palmitoyl chain is a delivery decision rather than the active part - the signalling fragment is the pentapeptide.

How much does Matrixyl cost?
