BPC-157 vs TB-500: How the Research Differs

Both are studied in soft-tissue repair models and they are frequently discussed together, but they are unrelated molecules investigated through different mechanisms. This page sets out what the published literature actually compares, and what it does not.

The short answer

They are different molecules with different proposed mechanisms. BPC-157 is a synthetic 15-residue peptide derived from a protein in gastric juice, most studied for blood vessel formation in rat tendon and gut injury models. TB-500 is a 7-residue fragment of thymosin beta-4, studied for its effect on actin, the protein cells use to move into a wound. Neither has completed human trials, neither is approved anywhere, and no published study has compared them head to head in the same model.

What the research actually compares

Descriptions of published research activity and findings. Nothing here is a claim about what these products do, or a statement that either is safe or effective for any purpose.

Mechanism, as far as it is understood

The most-cited BPC-157 work points to angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels, with increased expression of VEGF receptor 2 as the reported route. The TB-500 literature centres on actin sequestration: thymosin beta-4 binds monomeric actin and releases it when a cell needs to build the internal scaffolding for migration. One is about blood supply to a repair site, the other about cells physically arriving there.

Evidence base and its limits

BPC-157 has a large body of rodent work from a small number of research groups, principally in Croatia, and no completed human trials. Thymosin beta-4 has broader independent literature including work on corneal and dermal wound healing, and reached clinical trials in its full-length form. TB-500 as sold is a fragment, not full-length thymosin beta-4, so the fragment does not automatically inherit that evidence.

Why they are sold as a pair

The pairing is mechanistic reasoning rather than an experimental result: new blood vessels and cell migration are different stages of the same repair sequence, so combining a peptide studied for each is expected to be complementary. Regulatory position

Both are prohibited in competitive sport under the WADA S0 category for non-approved substances. Neither is licensed as a medicine in the UK or elsewhere, and both are supplied strictly for laboratory research.

Common questions

Which is better, BPC-157 or TB-500?

Neither has been shown to be better, because no published study has compared them directly in the same model. They are investigated through different mechanisms, so the more useful question in a research context is which mechanism a given experiment is designed to probe.

Can BPC-157 and TB-500 be used together?

They are supplied together in our Wolverine Blend at 5 mg of each per vial. That is a formulation decision that keeps the ratio identical across a batch. There is no published controlled study of the combination, and any interaction between them is untested.

Is TB-500 the same as thymosin beta-4?

No. TB-500 as commonly supplied is a short acetylated fragment of the full 43-residue thymosin beta-4 sequence. Suppliers differ in what they label TB-500, so confirm the molecular weight on the batch COA to establish which you have received.
