Buy Bacteriostatic Water in the UK
What bacteriostatic water is, how it differs from sterile water, and what to check before ordering it in the UK.
The short version
- Two sizes, 10 mL and 3 mL. Boxes of 10 vials from $0.90 per vial. Supplied as a laboratory reagent containing roughly 0.9 percent benzyl alcohol. Dispatched from the UK, tracked, no minimum order.
Buying
What to establish before you order
Practical points a buyer can check. This is a consumable rather than a research compound, and it is described as such.
The difference that matters
Sterile water is water and nothing else, intended for a single draw. Bacteriostatic water carries a preservative — roughly 0.9 percent benzyl alcohol — which inhibits bacterial growth and is why a vial can be entered more than once. That single difference is the whole reason it is the usual solvent for a multi-milligram peptide vial drawn from over days rather than minutes.
Why there is no Certificate of Analysis
There is no peptide in it to assay. Every peptide box we ship carries a batch-specific COA reporting purity by HPLC; a purity figure for a solvent would be meaningless, so none is quoted and none is issued. We would rather say that plainly than imply a certificate exists.
How much to buy
The volume you add sets the concentration, so the size you need depends on how you intend to make up your vials. A 10 mL vial reconstitutes several peptide vials; a 3 mL vial suits smaller preparations or a single working stock. Our calculator works out the resulting concentration for any combination.
What this is not
This is not bacteriostatic water for injection. That is a licensed medicinal product in the UK and a different regulatory category entirely. What we supply is a laboratory reagent for research use, and it is labelled that way.
Common questions
Does bacteriostatic water contain alcohol?
Yes. Roughly 0.9 percent benzyl alcohol as a preservative. That is what suppresses microbial growth and allows a vial to be drawn from more than once. Sterile water has no preservative.
How long does a reconstituted vial last?
Twenty-eight days is the figure conventionally applied once the seal is broken, kept cold and out of the light. A solution made with plain sterile water gets no such window. The preservative buys time, not sterility.
Which size should I order?
It depends on the concentration you intend to make up rather than on the peptide itself. The calculator on this site takes a vial strength and a solvent volume and returns the concentration and the draw volume.
